Super Bowl Ads
This morning, after recovering from way too much food yesterday, I stumbled across an interesting stat: Super Bowl commercials or teasers for them were watched 30 million times BEFORE this weekend. I thought about that most of the day, and am still blown away.
As someone who doesn't really watch or understand football at all, I mostly watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and go to the parties for the camaraderie and food. That said, I really wasn't that blown away by any commercials this year, and I've decided it's because I saw too many of them before the game. I think building up hype for your advertising campaign is great (i.e.: teasers), but when that hype is to just release your commercial before the game, I just don't see the point anymore. I was anticipating being blown away by ads this weekend, and ended up just being underwhelmed in general. I for one am hoping this trend doesn't continue into the next few years.
I won't say I didn't have a few favorites though. My top picks were generally car-related, since we do a lot of work for cars and I have to watch them a lot.
My top picks:
1. The VW Beetle ad. I thought this was pretty clever, but was bummed that I had already seen it before Sunday.
2. The Doritos commercial with the baby and the grandma. This one was just hilarious, there was nothing else to it than that.
3. The Silverado "end of the world" commerical. This was particularly funny to me because I just watched "Zombieland," and the Twinkies reference was even more funny to me.
